Mumbai rains update: IMD issues orange alert, flights and train services hit; here's what travellers should expect

Monsoon has finally hit the parched city of Mumbai and how! In a recent update, the Mumbai rain chaos has disrupted travel and triggered an orange alert. Heavy showers have once again brought the capital of Maharashtra to a standstill, with waterlogged roads, trees uprooted, traffic congestion, and weather warnings. For travellers, this means extra precaution while exploring the financial capital of the country.IMD WarningsThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts. Predictions are in place for thunderstorms, lightning and intense rainfall, and gusty winds for Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Palghar, as the southwest monsoon strengthens over the region.Roads floodedMost of the city reported over 200 mm of rainfall on Tuesday night. This resulted in flooded roads and disruptions in train services. As per officials, parts of the city received over 200 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8 AM. Commuters face delays on major roads while civic agencies are continuously working to clear flooded stretches. For explorers in the city, this means airport transfers and sightseeing schedules may take considerably longer than expected. Be prepared for traffic jams and road disruptions and plan accordingly. Government urges cautionA few days back, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had expressed concerns over Mumbai’s no rain conditions. But today’s story is different. As per reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (also officially known as the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) body has deployed over 7,000 staff across the city to manage the situation and respond to rain-related issues. Those dependent on BEST buses are advised to check their routes before stepping out. Several BEST bus services have been diverted following severe waterlogging across Mumbai. What travellers should know

While Mumbai is not new to such conditions, visitors are advised to plan accordingly:Allow extra time to reach airports or railway stationsCheck airline, railway and BEST buses updates Carry rain gear Wear sturdy, non-slip footwearAvoid venturing into flooded streets While the monsoon gives Mumbai a unique atmosphere, the rain-washed city looks absolutely otherworldly. However, heavy showers can interrupt travel plans as local transport could face delays and streets could get heavily flooded. However, with the IMD’s Orange Alert still in effect and forecasts pointing to more heavy showers, visitors should closely monitor weather updates and be prepared for last-minute changes.
